As a member of the World Ocean Council since 2021 – a cross-sectoral industry alliance committed to sustainable ocean stewardship – Holcim is scaling up its actions to protect marine environments.

Sailing the globe for circularity

Holcim launched GO CIRCULAR, its offshore yacht driving the circular economy and advancing marine science.

Team Holcim-PRB are sailing around the globe, leading an education program to empower students and communities. It works to contribute to protecting marine ecosystems with water sampling throughout its races. Holcim participated in the world’s two premiere round-the-world sailing races.

Preserving marine habitats

Holcim has many years of experience promoting sustainable oceans. Our bioactive patented bilayer concrete is specially designed to help rehabilitate marine ecosystems.

Bioactive concrete contributed to a four-fold increase in marine species over the past 3 years in the Parc des Calanques near Marseilles, France. Building on this success, Holcim has partnered with EGIS/Seaboost to implement bioactive solutions in other marine areas throughout the Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Persian Gulf.


Removing plastic waste from coastal areas

The Circular Explorer is a fully solar-powered catamaran built in partnership with One Earth One Ocean. The first of its kind, this groundbreaking recycling machine recovers and recycles plastic waste before it enters our oceans.

The catamaran serves as an education center and live science lab, collecting and sharing data to empower broader action and research. The catamaran is designed to recover four metric tons of plastic waste per day, which are recycled into new products and alternative energy.
